Microsoft sparks Web services for eBay

Web services have promised to create an interoperable world based on open standards, but practical applications have been scarce. Thus it is perhaps a bit ironic that one of the first high-profile pushes for Web services comes from Microsoft, which has announced a program with eBay to create auction-based Web services with Microsoft Office.
