SAP to offer regular updates for Business One

March 15, 2007, 10:57 AM —  IDG News Service —

More and faster: That's how SAP AG wants to deliver enhancements to its software for small businesses.

The company will start releasing frequent updates to its Business One product in the form of what it is calling "enhancement packages." The packages will include maintenance updates, new features and best-practice tools, the company announced Thursday during a news conference at the Cebit trade show.

The updates will be released several times a year between major new product releases, according to SAP spokeswoman Astrid Pölchen. "We will continue to deliver a new release every year but we don't want to wait a year to deliver new functions but provide them instead every couple of months."

The Walldorf, Germany, vendor introduced a similar service in January for larger customers running its core ERP (enterprise resource planning) product, mySAP ERP.

The first update package for Business One is due in the second quarter. It will include several new financial capabilities, including control accounts, general ledger reporting and document printing.

SAP has around 13,000 Business One customers, and offers around 350 add-ons for the product developed by ISVs (independent software vendors).
