SAP in US small business push with American Express
SAP America Inc. launched its SAP Business One software for U.S. small and midsize businesses (SMBs) on Thursday and said it has allied with an American-Express Co. unit to sell the new product.
SAP Business One includes modules for sales force automation, financial management, inventory management and a reporting tool for access to data. It is meant for companies with up to several hundred employees, SAP said in a statement.
American Express Tax and Business Services Inc. will distribute and provide support for SAP Business One. In addition, SAP and American Express are working on specialized versions of the software that will be sold as "SAP Business One - The American Express Edition" exclusively by American Express and its partners, SAP said.
A first American Express version of SAP Business One aimed at distribution and wholesale companies is already under way, SAP said.
American Express Tax and Business Services is a wholly owned American Express subsidiary. It offers financial and business consulting services to SMBs from its 54 offices in 16 U.S. states, according to SAP.
With the announcement, SAP joins Oracle Corp., Microsoft Corp. and other large software vendors trying to get a piece of the U.S. SMB market, which they had left largely untapped. SMBs had been buying their software from smaller vendors.
SAP Business One was already available in Germany and a few other European countries.
SAP Business One is based on the former TopManage software, which SAP of Walldorf, Germany, acquired a year ago from TopManage Financial Solutions Ltd.
Information on pricing of SAP Business One was not immediately available.
