Most things in life don't come for free. But the following half-dozen Apple iPhone applications are exceptions to the rule. Each of these free downloads will greatly enhance both your iPhone and mobile Internet experiences...and the price sure is right.
iPhone fantasy football draft tools
It seems like the iPhone could play a pivotal role in managing fantasy draft preparations. And indeed, with the pro football season and its attendant fantasy leagues kicking off next week, two programs available on the App Store offer to do just that. To some extent, they deliver, though you probably won't want to abandon pen and paper for this year's draft.
Todo 1.1.1 for iPhone and iPod touch
There are plenty of simple to-do apps available for the iPhone--we reviewed a slew of them a few weeks back. But if you're looking for something with more functionality, Appigo's Todo 1.1.1 is one of the better options, and it doesn't require a Ph.D. in Getting Things Done (GTD) to figure out how to use it.
iPhone apps for travelers
Downloadable applications from Apple's iTunes App Store can turn your iPhone into a helpful traveling companion. As of this writing (early August, 2008), the App Store's Travel category includes foreign language translators, currency and weight/measure converters, a smattering of guides to municipal transportation (such as one for London's Tube), and Frommer's city guides for New York and San Francisco.
